Asia Pacific Microcomputer Statistics Committee (APMSC)

The APMSC was founded in 1997 to collect vendor-reported PC shipment data and to provide the aggregate totals to the participating members.

Because the APMSC reports are based on actual PC shipment data for the Asia Pacific region, this program provides a level of accuracy that is not available from any third-party sources. Consistent and reliable information about market size and growth allows members to measure their company’s performance relative to the market in an objective manner. Since its formation, the APMSC has made a number of reporting program enhancements and has coordinated the exchange of data with other international PC statistics programs.

Benefits to participants

The APMSC program provides participating members with the most accurate, reliable, and cost-effective PC market statistics available.

Committee members have fast access to MONTHLY data covering desktop and portable (business-marketed, home-marketed, and personal workstations) and server shipments on a monthly basis. The program is in the process of also adding tablet shipments.

Generally once per year, the APMSC will develop a three year consensus forecast that provides a detailed view as to market growth and trends by form factor and technology.

Country Coverage

The APMSC program covers 14 countries within the Asia Pacific Region:

  • Australia
  • Hong Kong
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Korea
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines
  • PRC
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Rest of Asia Pacific (excluding Japan)

The APMSC is in the process of adding Japan reporting.

IPR’s Role in the APMSC

In 2009, IPR assumed the role of Program Administrator, coordinating the collection and reporting of member data, leading the consensus forecast process and handling other program administration.

Data Submission and Data Security

Submissions for the APMSC are due on the 10th workday following the close of each month to allow reports to be issued between the 15th and 20th workday.

On issues of data security, the APMSC bylaws are strict and are designed to avoid any possibility of participant data disclosure. Participant data submissions are made by code number. No company names are associated with the data. Participants may elect to split their data submission across several code numbers. Submissions may be emailed or uploaded via a secure site to the program administrator. Since all submissions are ultimately destroyed, there are no paper or electronic records of individual participant shipment history.

Committee Meetings

Meetings are generally held annually at member company sites. These one day meetings address issues and topics of concern to the committee members and give them the opportunity to network with industry peers, receive presentations, and engage with analysts from leading research firms and other organizations. During these meetings, the three year consensus forecast is also developed.

Membership

APMSC membership is available to all personal computer manufacturers with sales in the Asia Pacific region. Current APMSC members include Asus, Dell, HP Inc., Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Intel, Lenovo, and Microsoft

In addition to the APMSC committee, members with worldwide PC shipments may also choose to join the AMSC (U.S. and Canada), LAMSC (Latin America), and/or EMS (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) programs.
